The original version of this song had a different title and mostly different words. But Ruby added a lot of new lyrics which caused me to have to rephrase and rethink things. We both thought the chorus ended up sounding vaguely Steely Dan-ish…but who cares, right?
-Billy Carl Mancini
Steely Dan? OK, we’re no Steely Dan, but if a teensy part of a song brings them to mind, that’s fine with me.

The One Delight

Well you know…this being away is getting me down
And you know…it’s a cloudy day in this lonely town
I used to see your smile…Nearly all the time in the summertime
But like an early frost…It just disappears in the frozen ground
And you say it will be alright
Another day will bring someplace to run
And you say love’s the one delight
I hope we’ll get to see the summer sun (while we’re on the run)
Well you know…a branch broke off my favorite tree
And now…my life’s laid bare for all to see
These days…I can’t keep track of who I am
But I’ll make my peace with winter…By the time December rolls around
And you say it will be alright
Another day will bring someplace to run
And you say there’ll be time for us
When everything is said and done
And you say love’s the one delight
I hope we’ll get to see the summer sun
And you say it will be alright
Another day will bring someplace to run
And you say there’ll be time for us
When everything is said and done
And you say love’s the one delight
I hope we’ll get to see the summer sun (the rising son)
And you say love’s the one delight
To get us through this lonely life
